Chi-Han Chai, pianist

Chi-Han Chai, born in Taiwan, has received his first piano lesson at the age of five. After completed his undergraduate piano studies under Alexander Sung in Taipei, Mr. Chai went to Europe in 1997 further under Mrs. Wan-Ing Ong and Andrzej Ratusinski at National University for Music and Stage Performance (Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst) in Stuttgart, Germany, and received his Diploma with the highest score. Later he moved to Salzburg to study under Alfons Kontarsky. In 2003 and 2004, he received “Magister der Künste”(Master of Arts) both in piano and chamber music performance at University Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria.


Mr. Chai has performed throughout Asia and Europe. As a concert pianist, he gives recitals regularly in Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing as well in Stuttgart, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna and Amsterdam. Besides his series recitals, he has been invited to music festivals and played in various ceremonies. In 1992 he gave his debut at National Recital Hall in Taipei. During his studying, he has often accompanied for vocal and string (violin and cello) studios. In 1999, he was invited to play Mozart piano concerto in A major, KV 414, with Wasserburger Kammerorchester in Bavaria. Besides being a concert pianist, Mr. Chai is also active in chamber music, and has performed with many other great musicians. Between 2001and 2003 he played with cellist Simon Nagl as duo, piano trio and quartet in Salzburg and Munich; in 2004/2005 he gave concert tours with violinist Elisabeth Reiter in the Netherlands and Austria; in 2006 with soprano Esin Özsan, gave Lieder concerts “Sleep, Dream and Death” in Istanbul, Turkey and in the Netherlands; in 2012/2013, he has played with the violinist Alexej Pevzner. In additions, Mr. Chai has worked with other artists. From 2003 to 2006 he played with the ballet dancers at Dance Academy of Codarts College and at Dance Works Rotterdam. Since 2014 Chi-Han Chai formed with pianist/composer Hsiao-Feng Chang and pianist Corien van den Berg as piano duo.


Chi-Han Chai played in 2018 and 2019 with Piano Recitals through the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Taiwan. Since then the music colleges of National Taiwan Normal University and Taipei Municipal University of Education have invited him to give master classes.
